We build the klikkie voice agent in public. Every conversation shows us what people ask for and where it can be easier. Here is what we have already improved since launch, and what we are working on next.
Key Takeaways
When you build something people talk to, you learn fast. Every conversation shows what people expect, how they say it and where klikkie can be easier. Nobody else has this kind of insight into making photo books by voice, so we use it, every week.
How do we decide what to improve?
We look at the conversations, anonymised, and ask two questions. What do people ask for, and where do they get stuck? Most improvements come straight from that. For example, many people tell klikkie the story behind their photos, so we keep making that part of the conversation better. Read more in what we learned from our first month of voice conversations.
Already better than at launch
A few things that are already live:
- Talk or type, from the start. You choose right away whether you want to talk or type, and you can switch at any moment.
- A smoother start with the microphone. Your browser asks permission before you can talk. klikkie now tells you in advance, and if the microphone is blocked, klikkie explains how to allow it on your device and offers to try again. In the meantime, you simply carry on typing.
- Read along. What klikkie says appears as captions on screen.
- More precise edits. Ask to remove one of three similar photos and only that one goes. Describe the photos you want to add and klikkie finds them.
- Fewer detours. After adding photos or logging in, you land straight back in your book.
Where do people still get stuck?
Mostly at the edges of the conversation, not in the conversation itself. The browser’s permission to use the microphone is the most common snag, especially on phones. And once a book is built, people want to keep adding and adjusting photos without stopping the conversation. That is exactly what we are working on now.
Next on our list
This is on our list for the coming releases:
- Add photos during a conversation, also when your book is already built.
- Crop a photo by voice, for example “zoom in on her face”.
- Brighten a photo or add a filter, for example “make it a bit lighter” or “make it black and white”.
- See your own words on screen as text, next to the captions of what klikkie says.
- klikkie sees what you select, so “this one” always means the photo you just tapped.
We update this page with every release, so you can follow along.
